NOVEMBER 20 // The 3rd FFB Workshop
Sunday, November 20, 2016
12:00- 5:30PM | NEW YORK, NY
The 3rd Fit for Broadway Workshop will take place in New York City on Sunday, November 20th, 2016. This Workshop is dedicated to creating a Broadway-filled oasis as we explore the deeper layers of what it means to be Fit for Broadway through focusing on the mind, body, spirit connection in mediation and mindful practices. We've invited our Broadway guests to help highlight this theme in their panel discussions, and Broadway mentor small groups.
Inspired by feedback from previous attendees at our first two workshops, we will be narrowing our focus, introducing longer segments so attendees can experience more time with our Broadway special guests and our wellness experts.
(**Please Note: We realized the need for more time to dive deep and do not want to rush our FFB transformation so this Workshop will not include workouts. The December FFB Workout will focus solely on fitness so if you are interested in expanding your mediation and mindful tools for living in the city, this is the Workshop for you! This workshop is especially great for anyone injured or unable to join us in the more physically intensive Workshops.**)
This FFB Workshop caters to anyone in New York City who is interested in cultivating a deeper understanding of self & spirit in relation to their work!

“I was someone who always suffered with low body image self esteem. I was someone who hated my body for most of my life, which breaks my heart thinking back to how much time I spent being cruel to myself because I felt disgusted by my own body. It’s so horrible what we do to ourselves! Yoga, opened my heart and mind in a way that I give LOVE to myself and CELEBRATE what my body can do! Giving yourself a mantra telling yourself you are connected and meant to be alive and to stretch and be flexible are all metaphors for how we must live OUTSIDE of the workout room! By doing all these poses, having a mantra, twisting your body, balancing, focusing, you become GRATEFUL instead of HATEFUL! Hey! I just made that up! Grateful instead of hateful! Let’s use that mantra! And really “yoga” means “union” and we are UNITED and we are ONE and we are loving ourselves so that we can love each other. It’s a practice of love and it has helped me be grateful that I get to borrow THIS amazing body while I am on this earth! So let me treat it with respect and love so that I can be a vessel for good!”

“I spent most of my childhood and adult life in a beautiful plus sized body. Heartache and life threw me into learning how to love myself into this new body and healthy frame of mind. After losing nearly 100lbs I have gone from playing Effie on the National tour of Dreamgirls to playing Squeak in The Color Purple on Broadway. I’m proud of that and me… Me loving myself from the inside out resulted in me just wanting to be my best in every aspect of my life and then everything just started to change. You are what you think.”
Beth is originally from Columbus, Ohio and started her performing career traveling the country in the 1st National Tour of 42nd Street. Favorite regional shows: Minsky's, Robin and the 7 Hoods, Chicago, Kiss Me Kate, and Crazy For you. TV credits include SNL, 30 Rock & Jimmy Fallon. Outside of performing, she's currently the Master Trainer at Body By Simone, a dance-based fitness studio in NYC. She occasionally teaches tap at Broadway Dance Center AND also has a dessert blog with her best friend! JustDessertsNYC.com.
"[My fitness routine is] a mix of cardio, strength training, and yoga. I always take dance class but I’m also a fitness trainer at Body By Simone where we do a mix of dance cardio and strength training. I also love hot vinyasa yoga to stretch my muscles. I always remind myself that I’m doing what I love and have been doing since I was 3 years old. It’s in me to perform and it’s a nice positive reminder that nothing can go wrong if you’re doing what you love.”

“Sports and performing absolutely go hand in hand. Whether it’s with dancing, or just standing still and being present and comfortable in your body during a scene, having a background in sports is a huge advantage. People always ask, “how long have you been dancing?” When I explain that I didn’t really take an official “dance class” until college, I usually get a confused and amused reaction. I certainly did lots of choreography in shows during high school but I was never interested in taking class. But when I started dancing at school, I had an athletic foundation and was able to apply all of that to my dancing, partnering, lifting etc… We all [have bumps in our road to Broadway] You’ll hear “no” more than you’ll hear “yes” and that is OK. Don’t blame yourself and try your best not to compare yourself to anyone else. If you look like someone or have the same skill set as someone else, so what? No one, NO ONE, in the whooooole entire world is YOU. Remember that.”
