Day 10 - Your He(art) Map
no set rules | you showing up is the answer
There are a lot of maps in this world. A lot of people say “you must follow this course to achieve this goal” or “High school, good college, move to NYC, make it big!” This is not always the case. Things can be different. That is where your He(art) Map comes in. We will use our new He(art) Maps to say “not today satan” and create our own path in this world.
I define a He(art) Map as listening to your gut/heart and following it in whatever direction it takes you. It takes blind trust and total commitment. It takes blocking out the haters who have come before you and saying “We’re gonna do it this way now”. It takes courage. It takes he(art). This one will take practice and time. So please give yourself those gifts and start rocking now.

Exercises & Journal Prompts
Exercise:
Write down a goal, big or small, and write down how it's “normally” accomplished. Go ahead and scratch that out.
Now actually create a map with Point A being where you are today and Point B being your goal or dream.
Write down 5 ways you've never seen “it” (your goal/dream) done.
Now plot as many points on your map as you can imagine for your journey.
What steps might you take to reach your goal? List feelings, actual destinations, people, challenges etc.
Ex. Between your two points, you could place the following on your map:
“Confidence!!”
“Moving to London.”
“Heartbreak” (remember it’s part of every journey)
“Getting told No. A lot.”
Usually we only account for the “good stops” on our map: our successes, triumphs… the positive aspects of our journey. By simply placing more realistic and challenging points on your map, you’ll begin to acknowledge that those “bad” or “negative” points are actually quite helpful in learning and growing. It helps you to become more adaptable to the journey ahead to reach your goal.
To continue expanding your possibilities…
Think of new ways to do things as you go about your day. Take a new route to work, listen to different music, put your clothes on in a different order. Think outside the box. The simple exercise of navigating your life differently can be healthy and helpful as you begin to explore new possibilities for your life.
Journal Prompts:
What do the points on your map represent?
Did plotting both the positive and challenging points on your map affect how you felt about your goal?
Can you expand on every point of your map and what it means to you?
For example: “New York City” could simply mean being in an environment that challenges you! That could be anywhere and as you clarify the feeling or the value on specific points of you map, you will expand your belief around what’s possible for you.
